PM Kusum Yojana | Kusum Scheme
Pradhanmantri Kisan Urja Suraksha Evam Utthaan Mahabhiyan or PM Kusum Yojana has been started to improve the existing irrigation system and provide farmers with financial assistance for the installation of solar pumps for agriculture and farming. PM Kusum Yojana was launched by the Ministry of New & Renewable Energy – Government of India, for farmers, for installation of solar pumps and grid-connected solar and other renewable power plants in the country. The whole scheme has three components, namely component A, component B, and component C. The budget required for the implementation is shared between the State government, the Central Government, and the applicant.

PM Kusum Yojana

The Three components of PM Kusum Yojana
Component A- It comprises setting 10,000 MW power plants of renewable energy sources with grid connection.
Here the individuals or the groups can set up power plants with a capacity between 500 kW to 2MV. The plan is to utilise the barren lands for setting up these power plants, and even lands where crops can grow below solar panels can be used for this.
One important point to be noted is that the plants will be installed within a radius of 5 km from the sub-stations to minimise the transmission loss and cost. DISCOMs can buy power at pre-fixed rates.
Component B-Installation of 17.5 lakh solar pumps.
Farmers can install standalone solar pumps with a capacity of a maximum of 7.5 HP, and this will replace the diesel pumps. However, pumps with a capacity of more than 7.5 HP can also be installed, but the provided financial assistant will be only up to the mentioned capacity. These pumps will be installed in the areas where the grid supply is not possible.
Component C- Solarizing grid-connected irrigation pumps.
Under this component of Kusum scheme, around 10 lakh agricultural pumps that are grid-connected will be replaced with solar ones, and Individual farmers are the targeted beneficiaries.
The extra power can be sold to DISCOMs at the pre-fixed rates.
How to apply for PM Kusum Yojana?

1.Go to the official portal of Kusum scheme and use the reference number to log in.

2.After you login, go to the apply button on the left corner of the screen, and it will take you to the registration page where you will be provided with your online application form.
3.Start filling up the form and provide all the details like your name and phone number, username, password and after doing everything, hit on the submit button.
4.After the submission of the form, you will be informed via message about its registration confirmation.
How will the scheme be implemented?
Component A and the component C are to be executed in the pilot mode where the objective is to install 1 lakh pumps with a capacity of 1000 MV. The Power capacity and the number of solar pumps will be increased after reaching this target on pilot mode. Component C functions as a subprogram, and it is also to be executed in pilot mode.
