PMGDisha or Pradhan Mantri Gramin Digital Saksharta Abhiyan was initiated under the ‘Skill India’ project to provide digital literacy to the people living in the rural areas of the country. The digital India campaign has been in limelight for the last few years and this is one of the biggest projects which will be very helpful in the implementation of the digital India project.
The rich and rural sections of the society almost have access to digital platforms and they also know the use of it to a great extent. But when it comes to rural India, then there are still many areas where people are not digitally literate and don’t know properly how to take advantage of modern-day digitalization. So this scheme is targeting to educate one person in each family with the vision of achieving digital India.

Pradhan Mantri Gramin Digital Saksharta Abhiyan – PMGDisha
This scheme was started in 2017 after the approval of the Prime Minister of India-Shri Narendra Modi. A total budget of 2351.38 crores has been allotted for the implementation of PMGDisha. The target of this scheme was to provide digital education to 6 crore students across India.
Objective – Pradhan Mantri Gramin Digital Saksharta Abhiyan
- The main objective of this scheme is to make the people or rural areas aware of the use of digital devices like smartphones and tablets and the most important, computers and laptops.
- Educate people about basic terminologies and train them about how to browse the internet, how to send/receive emails, access government schemes, and register online for them, make digital payments, etc.
- The target is to cover more than 40% of rural households.
- The government is focusing specifically on the marginalized sections of society like people falling in the BPL and differently-abled category, SC/ST, women, minorities who don’t have access to digital devices and lack knowledge about it.
PMGDisha – Important Points
Eligibility: Anyone who is digitally illiterate can take advantage of this scheme if he/she belongs to an eligible rural household.
Age: Anyone between the age group 14-60 years can be educated under this scheme.
Training Duration: The duration of this course is 20 hours and it has to be covered in between a period of 10-30 days
Mode of Instruction: The training will be provided in all the official languages of the country so that there is no language barrier for the learners.
Fees of the Course: There is no such fee and the training is provided free of cost to the members of rural households.
Training Centres: One person from each rural family can take training under this scheme from any of the nearby Common Service Centre CSC/VLE/ training centers.
Evaluation: National level certifying agencies like IGNOU, ICTACT, NIOS, etc conduct external evaluation independently.

How PMGDisha works?
You can simply divide the working system Pradhan Mantri Gramin Digital Saksharta Abhiyan into three parts:
1.Registration: All the eligible training centers do the registration of students for PMGDisha.
2.Training: 20 hours of training, normally within 10 days is provided regarding basic computer operations, internet uses, e-governance, simple terminologies, and cashless transactions.
3.Certificate: Exam after the training is taken and the students have to pass the exam to get the ‘Digital Literate’ certificate provided by the Government of India. For clearing the exam, a candidate has to at least score 8 out of 25.
PMGDisha Registration for Training Centres
Any franchise or person who is interested in running a PMGDisha training center has to fulfill certain criteria. At least a land area of 300 square feet along with three computers is required. If you meet these criteria, then you can do registration by providing details like Centre details, director’s details, space proof, cell number photographs of centers, Memorandum of Understanding, bank details, etc.
After completion of all documentation, a screening committee comes to visit the training center and submits its reports. Based on that report, approval is granted.
How much money is paid to training centers?
Training centers receive an amount of Rs.300 per candidate who is trained through their centers. Now let us discuss how centers conduct PMGDisha registration for all the eligible candidates.
PMGDisha Registration for Students
All the certified training centers do PMGDisha registration in their Gram Panchayat for one student from one family which is eligible.
Here are the steps for the people who are working in training centers for PMGDisha to add eligible students on the PMGDisha portal so that they can get the benefit of this scheme.
1.You have to go to the official website and then provide the Central ID and password for PMGDisha login.
2.Then on the homepage, you can find an option called Students. Select that and then select Add Student.
3.PMGDisha registration form will be opened on the screen and you have to provide all the details and attach documents required and after completing everything, hit on the ADD button
4.After registration is completed, you will be provided the username and password for the student which has to be saved for future use.
